The Kano State Education Sector Joint Steering Committee has concluded a two-day biannual meeting in Kaduna, assessing the progress of the education sector in the state.

The committee, inaugurated by Kano State Governor Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf in early 2024, comprises members from government agencies, key stakeholders, and development partners.

The committee discussed the pressing issue of out-of-school children in Kano State, with the state commissioner of education, Dr. Ali Haruna Makoda, revealing that the state has 989,000 out-of-school children, accounting for 7.6% of the national figure.

The committee agreed on new strategic steps to improve effective education service delivery, including the formation of the Kano State Out-of-School Children Education Initiative Committee.

Dr. Makoda announced that the government is working to generate authentic data on out-of-school children to address the problem effectively.

Representatives from organizations such as PLANE FCDO, UNICEF, Plan International, and others presented goodwill messages and progress reports on their educational interventions in the state.

The Emir of Kano, represented by Dokajin Kano, assured total support for achieving quality education, emphasizing the need to prioritize vocational education to make youth self-reliant.

The meeting served as a platform for cross-fertilization of ideas, raising new issues, and reaching positive resolutions for effective education policy delivery.

The committee’s efforts aim to harmonize support for the state education sector and achieve better results.
