Kano, Gov. Abba Kabiru Yusuf of Kano State on Friday presented a letter of appointment to Alhaji Lamido Sunusi 11, the 16th Emir of Kano.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that this follows the signing of the amended Kano State Emirates Council bill into law on Thursday, by governor yusuf.
The new bill dissolved the Emirate Council and sacked the five Emirs appointed by former Governor Abdullahi Ganduje.
The new law reinstates Alhaji Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, who was deposed in 2020, to the throne.
The previous Kano State Emirates Council Law 2019, signed by Ganduje, had created five Emirates – Kano, Bichi, Rano, Gaya, and Karaye.
However, the state government dethroned Sanusi on March 9, 2020, citing insubordination, and replaced him with Aminu Ado Bayero, who was transferred from Bichi Emirate to Kano.
The amended law dissolves all offices created under the repealed law, and district heads appointed or elevated under the law are to revert to their former positions.
The Governor expressed his gratitude to Almighty Allah for giving him the opportunity to present the letter to the new Emir, whom he described as the “people’s choice”.
The Governor offered his warmest congratulations to the new Emir, hailing him as a victim of the immediate past administration who has now been restored to his rightful position to lead the people.
“I pray to Allah to continue to guide you as you resume as the new Emir of Kano,” Governor Yusuf said, expressing his best wishes for the Emir’s success.
The Governor’s remarks were met with applause from the gathered dignitaries, including the brothers of the dethroned Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, and several traditional title holders.
The occasion marked a new chapter in the history of Kano Emirate, as Emir Sunusi Lamido returns to the throne, following the signing of the amended Kano State Emirates Council bill into law by Governor Yusuf on Thursday.
