Kano, The Management of Kano Electricity Distribution (KEDCO), has said the industrial action embarked upon by the National Union of Electricity Employees (NUEE) is as a result of lingering staff
welfare issues which accumulated over the last six years.
This is contained in a statement issued by the Head of Communication, KEDCO, Bala Sani, in Kano on Monday.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) had reported that Electricity workers on Monday shut down the Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO), over alleged failure to remit their pension deductions in the last 72 months.
The workers, under the aegis of the National Union of Electricity Employees (NUEE), vowed to keep the company shut until the remittances were confirmed paid.
Sani, said that the current Management, since taking over in July 2022 had prioritised staff welfare and entitlements by settling them as at when due.
“Also, a robust plan has been
drawn and the outstanding is being paid in batches, due to inability to settle all at
once owing to current liquidity crises in the power sector.”
” The management assures all concerned that it is currently engaging with relevant stakeholders to resolve the issue and discuss lasting solution to all lingering matters.
“While acknowledging that the unions are now keen to resolving these issues that
have lingered for over 6 years, the current management remains steadfast in attending to all staff obligations”, the statement said.(
