Yusuf inaugurates final payment of gratuities for 1,371 ex‑Councillors

Kano, Gov. Abba Yusuf of Kano State on Wednesday inaugurated the payment of the final tranche of severance gratuity, accommodation and leave allowances to 1,371 former local government Councillors who served between 2021 and 2024.

This payment brought to an end all outstanding liabilities owed to them by the state government.

The  News Agency of Nigeria ( NAN) reports that Yusuf  performed the ceremony at the Coronation Hall of Government House, Kano.

Yusuf recalled that during the previous disbursement he had promised the final tranche would be paid before the end of 2025.

He thanked Almighty Allah for granting him the opportunity to fulfil the pledge, stating that the completion marked a significant milestone for his administration.

Yusuf said the release of the final tranche settled all financial obligations to the former councillors.

He disclosed that over N8 billion was paid in this tranche, bringing the total amount disbursed to more than N15 billion.

He added that the exercise demonstrates the administration’s commitment to social justice, fairness and the welfare of citizens irrespective of political affiliation, and reflected the people‑oriented policies aimed at ensuring the dividends of democracy reach the grassroots.

The Governor thanked the former councillors for their contributions to grassroots governance and commended their patience while awaiting settlement.

He also expressed appreciation to public servants and relevant officials who worked collaboratively to ensure the successful completion of the exercise.

The ALGON Chairperson, Hajiya Saadatu Yusha’u, described the settlement as a sign of the administration’s dedication to fulfilling its campaign promises.

The event was attended by top government functionaries, senior civil servants and representatives of the beneficiaries, who lauded the administration for prioritising the welfare of former office holders.

Some of the beneficiaries from Ajingi Alhaji Saminu Ajingi  expressed delight with the present administration under Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, describing the government’s policies as a positive step for Kano State.

He said the administration’s focus on infrastructure and social welfare had brought noticeable improvement to the grassroots level.

 Alhaji Abdulrazak Yau, a former councillor from Nasarawa local government Yau  praised Gov. Yusuf for his leadership, noting that the governor’s commitment to fulfilling campaign promises was evident in recent initiatives.

Both leaders commended the governor’s efforts and urged continued support for his agenda.
