Vice President Kashim Shettima and Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf have praised the Tijjaniyya Islamic sect for its contributions to fostering unity among Muslims in Nigeria.
Speaking at the 2025 Maulud celebration for the late Sheikh Ibrahim Niass, Vice President Shettima commended the sect’s commitment to the true teachings of Islam and its guiding principles, which emphasize the importance of peace, harmony, and tolerance.
Represented by Islamic Cleric Babagana Fannami, VP Shettima encouraged Muslims to emulate the sect’s unwavering dedication to the lessons of Prophet Muhammad and avoid extremism.
Governor Yusuf, the chief host, also lauded the Tijjaniyya sect’s efforts in maintaining peaceful relationships with other sects in Nigeria.
The event, which took place at Sani Abacha Stadium in Kano, was attended by thousands of devotees from across the country.
Notably, the celebration occurred despite initial concerns over a purported security threat, which the government dismissed as unfounded.
Emir Khalifa Dr. Muhammadu Sanusi II, the national leader of the Tijjaniyya in Nigeria, prayed for the unity of Muslims worldwide and tolerance with believers of other faiths.
