A devastating accident occurred along Agaiye road in Niger state, resulting in the loss of 37 lives, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has confirmed.

Corps Commander Kumar Tsukwam, Sector Commander FRSC Niger State, confirmed the incident on Monday.

According to him, the injured victims were rushed to General Hospital Lapai for medical attention and were later referred to IBBU Specialist Hospital Minna.

Preliminary reports indicate that a tanker from Lagos, loaded with fuel and traveling to Kano, lost control at high speed, fell, and caught fire.

A trailer carrying cows and humans was also affected, and two other vehicles behind it were engulfed in flames. All four vehicles were completely burnt to ashes.

Eyewitnesses reported that the trailer driver was alerted by a passenger about the fire ahead, but he responded that it was just a tire burning.

However, upon reaching the scene, the trailer was immediately engulfed in flames, resulting in the instant death of 35 people.

Two others died later at the hospital, bringing the total number of fatalities to 37.

The FRSC has launched an investigation into the incident to determine the cause of the accident and prevent similar occurrences in the future.
