The recognition of Comrade Mukhtar Gidado with the 2026 NUJ Media ICON Award is a moment of pride, not only for him but also for those of us who have had the privilege of working closely with him and witnessing his contributions to the journalism profession over the years.
From his distinguished years of service to the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), both in Bauchi State and nationally as Deputy National President, to his current role as Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the Bauchi State Governor, Mukhtar has continued to demonstrate professionalism, integrity and a firm commitment to responsible journalism and public service.
Having followed his journey and worked alongside him, I consider this recognition a well-deserved acknowledgement of his years of dedication to the profession. His contributions to strengthening professional standards, promoting responsible media practice and advancing constructive democratic engagement speak to a career built on service, experience and commitment.
Beyond the positions he has occupied, what makes this recognition particularly meaningful is the opportunity it offers to acknowledge a career devoted to the growth and credibility of journalism.
