Kano – August 31, 2026 – The Conference of Registrars of Colleges of Education in Nigeria, CORECOEN, has sought the support of the Kano State Government towards the successful hosting of its 2026 National Conference scheduled for November at Sa’adatu Rimi College of Education, Kano.
The request was made when a delegation of the professional body paid a courtesy visit to the Secretary to the Kano State Government, Umar Faruk Ibrahim, at his office.
The SSG welcomed the initiative and commended CORECOEN for choosing Kano as the venue for the national gathering, describing it as an important opportunity to further strengthen professional collaboration and contribute to the development of teacher education and the wider education sector.
Ibrahim said the administration of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf attaches enormous importance to education, which remains one of the major pillars of its development agenda.
He recalled that a substantial portion of the state’s 2026 budget has been dedicated to the education sector, reflecting the administration’s determination to provide the necessary resources and create a more conducive environment for teaching and learning across the state.
According to him, when properly managed and translated into tangible development, such investment in education would not only create a more habitable and conducive environment for learning, but also contribute significantly to building a peaceful, enlightened and economically productive society.
The SSG further emphasised that education remains a critical instrument for human capital development, social transformation and sustainable development, stressing that the state government would continue to encourage initiatives capable of improving the quality of education and strengthening institutions responsible for producing the nation’s future teachers and professionals.
Earlier, the CORECOEN delegation explained that the 2026 National Conference would bring together Registrars of Federal, State and Private Colleges of Education from across the country to deliberate on contemporary issues affecting the administration and management of Colleges of Education in Nigeria.
The conference is expected to provide a platform for education administrators and other stakeholders to exchange ideas and develop strategies in key areas including institutional governance, administrative reforms, human capital development, digital transformation, records management, policy implementation and the overall advancement of Colleges of Education and teacher education in Nigeria.
The delegation noted that hosting the conference in Kano also carries particular historical significance, as a Registrar from a state-owned College of Education has, for the first time in the history of CORECOEN, been elected Chairman of the Committee of Registrars of Colleges of Education in Nigeria.
It described the development as a significant milestone and a recognition of the quality of leadership and professionalism within the tertiary education system of Kano and Jigawa states.
The professional body further observed that bringing the national conference to Kano would provide the state with an opportunity to showcase its rich history, cultural heritage and renowned hospitality, while highlighting its commitment to educational development and strengthening professional networking and inter-state collaboration.
The conference is expected to attract prominent personalities and stakeholders in the education sector, including neighbouring state governors, the Minister of Education, the Executive Secretary of the National Commission for Colleges of Education, NCCE, representatives of the Committees of Provosts of Colleges of Education, leaders of relevant education unions and professional associations, Provosts from the North-West Zone, as well as traditional rulers.
CORECOEN therefore appealed to the Kano State Government for support and financial assistance towards the successful hosting of the national conference scheduled for November 2026 at Sa’adatu Rimi College of Education, Kano.
