Kano – July 15, 2026 – The Nigeria Customs Service, Kano/Jigawa Area Command, has generated about N63 billion as revenue between January and June 2026.
The Acting Customs Area Controller of the command, Deputy Comptroller Usman Umar-Adamu, disclosed this on Wednesday while briefing newsmen on the command’s mid-year performance at its headquarters in Kano.
Umar-Adamu said the revenue surpassed the N58.3 billion generated during the corresponding period of 2025.
He said the command within the period also arrested 22 suspects and made seizures with a Duty Paid Value, DPV, of N1.7 billion.
According to him, operations leading to the interceptions were intelligence-driven and the command had developed a real-time dashboard to monitor and evaluate revenue generation performance.
“The command generated N63 billion from January to June 2026. This surpassed the N58.3 billion generated during the corresponding period of 2025 by approximately N4.6 billion, representing a growth of about 7.4 per cent, despite the decline in cargo throughput,” he said.
He added that the Kano Free Trade Zone generated over N26 billion in the first half of 2026, exceeding the total revenue generated by the zone from January to December 2025 by about N4 billion.
The area controller further said the command recovered about N3 billion from abuse of transit procedures during the period.
He said the command intensified enforcement activities through intelligence-driven operations and effective inter-agency collaboration in line with the service’s mandate of protecting the nation’s economy.
Items seized include unregistered pharmaceuticals, four air pistols, endangered wildlife including elephant tusks, over 2,000 pieces of 25-litre kegs of foreign refined packaged vegetable oil, foreign spaghetti and macaroni pasta, foreign parboiled rice, and counterfeit packaging materials for agrochemicals and insecticides.
Others are 14 transit containers of 40ft involving diversion and abuse of transit procedures, smuggled vehicles and truck heads, an RX drone camera GPS without an end user certificate, as well as military gear and accoutrements.
Umar-Adamu said some of the 22 suspects arrested had been handed over to relevant security and regulatory agencies for further investigation, while others were on administrative bail.
He said the command also made major interceptions at the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport involving cross-border movement of undeclared foreign currencies in violation of the Anti-Money Laundering (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, 2022.
The intercepted cash and other negotiable instruments comprised 568,100 United States Dollars, 134,256 Saudi Riyals, 28 Chinese Yuan, 20 Ghana Cedis and 35 kilogrammes of silver bars worth N175 million.
“The successes recorded in the first half of 2026 demonstrate the unwavering commitment, professionalism and resilience of the command’s officers and men,” he said.
He attributed the achievements to the strategic leadership and reforms of the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, and his management team.
