Kano, Stakeholders of the APC Legacy group have submitted a shortlist of nominees for the position of Deputy Governor of Kano State to Governor Abba Yusuf, following consultations on the state’s evolving political landscape.
This is contained in a statement issued by Magaji Umar Gwammaja, a frontline member of the APC Legacy group in Kano on Sunday.
Gwammaja said the move followed recent political realignments and the resignation of the former Deputy Governor, Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, on March 27, 2026.
He explained that the list comprises three prominent figures: Rabiu Sulaiman Bichi, Rt. Hon. Kabiru Alhassan Rurum, and Hon. Murtala Sule Garo.
He described Bichi as a leading contender with extensive experience spanning state, federal, and development sectors, including roles as Managing Director of the Urban Development Bank of Nigeria (UDBN), former Managing Director of KNUPDA, Commissioner, and Secretary to the State Government.
He currently heads the Hadejia Jama’are River Basin Development Authority.
According to him, Rurum is a seasoned legislator who served three terms in the Kano State House of Assembly representing Rano, rising to the position of Speaker, and is currently serving his second term in the House of Representatives representing Rano, Kibiya, and Bunkure Federal Constituency.
He added that Garo, despite ongoing litigation, is an experienced political administrator who previously served as State Organising Secretary, Executive Chairman of Kabo Local Government, and later as a Commissioner in the Kano State Executive Council for eight consecutive years.
Gwammaja further stated that the nominees would be forwarded to security agencies in Abuja for background checks and profiling to ensure they meet the required standards of integrity for the office.
He noted that upon completion of the screening, Governor Yusuf is expected to consult with President Tinubu before transmitting a final nominee to the Kano State House of Assembly for screening and confirmation in line with constitutional provisions.(
