Gov Yusuf appoints Dr. Magashi Co-Chair of Kano anti-drug abuse task force

Kano – July 6, 2026 – Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has approved the appointment of Dr. Aminu Garba Magashi as Co-Chair of the Kano State Anti-Drug Abuse Task Force.
This was contained in a statement issued by his spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, on Monday.
Yusuf said the appointment reflects the administration’s commitment to tackling drug abuse and related social vices, particularly among young people, through stronger collaboration with civil society organisations, public health experts and other stakeholders.
The governor also disclosed that the state government is set to establish a mobile court for the speedy prosecution of drug-related offences and other social crimes. He said the initiative is aimed at ensuring prompt justice, enhancing enforcement and serving as a deterrent to offenders.
Dr. Magashi is a medical doctor, public health expert, President of the Africa Health Budget Network and a civil society advocate with experience in public health policy, social protection and community development.
The governor expressed confidence that Dr. Magashi’s experience would strengthen the activities of the task force and support government efforts to build a safer, healthier and drug-free Kano.
Yusuf further approved the inclusion of a representative of the Sharia Commission in the composition of the task force to ensure conformity with Islamic guidance.
