Abuja – July 7, 2026 – The 2023 Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, governorship candidate in Sokoto State, Sa’idu Umar Ubandoma, has defected to the All Progressives Congress, APC.
Ubandoma was received into the APC on Tuesday by the leader of the party in Sokoto State, Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, at his residence in Asokoro, Abuja.
This was contained in a statement issued by Bashar Abubakar, SA Media and Publicity.
Ubandoma, a former Commissioner for Finance and Secretary to the Sokoto State Government under Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, described the defection as a major political realignment ahead of the 2027 general elections.
He said he was inspired by the leadership and political maturity demonstrated by Senator Wamakko, as well as the performance of Governor Ahmed Aliyu in delivering people-oriented projects in Sokoto State.
According to him, the administration’s achievements in infrastructure, education, healthcare, agriculture and rural development convinced him that the APC remains the most credible platform for the continued growth of the state.
Welcoming Ubandoma, Senator Wamakko described the defection as a significant boost to the APC and a testament to the confidence political leaders have in the party’s leadership and development agenda.
He assured Ubandoma and his supporters of warm reception and mutual respect in the affairs of the party, saying the APC remains open to citizens committed to the unity, peace and development of Sokoto State.
Ubandoma was also a key stakeholder in the African Democratic Congress, ADC, and a prominent figure in the political movement of former Governor Tambuwal.
