Kano Govt. inaugurates one health steering committee

Kano, The Secretary to the Kano State Government, Alhaji Umar  Ibrahim, on Thursday inaugurated the State One‑Health Steering Committee (SOHSC), reaffirming the administration’s commitment to stronger multi‑sectoral health coordination.

This is contained in a statement issued by the Press Secretary to the Secretary to the State Government, Musa Tanko, in Kano on Friday.

The committee, established under the Kano State Centre for Disease Control (KNCDC), will review and approve proposals of the One‑Health Technical Committee.

The committee will  provide strategic leadership and oversee the implementation of One‑Health initiatives across the state.

Ibrahim said the One‑Health approach—integrating human, animal and environmental health was essential for tackling emerging and re‑emerging disease threats.

He added that the steering committee composed of representatives from the Ministries of Health, Livestock Development, Environment and Climate Change, Finance, Information, and relevant agencies.

According to the SSG, it marked a major milestone in the state’s preparedness to manage public‑health crises.

He expressed confidence that the members, selected for their professional competence and dedication, will discharge their duties with diligence and integrity, thereby strengthening coordination at the highest level and delivering recommendations for a more resilient health system.
