Kano, The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) Kano chapter has commended Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for renovating over 200 Primary Healthcare Centres (PHCs) and upgrading some PHCs and cottage hospitals to general hospitals.

NMA Kano chairman Dr. AbdulRahman Ali made the commendation in a statement issued in Kano on this year’s Physicians Week in Kano.

Dr. Ali said the gesture would improve the health system and boost healthcare workers’ welfare statewide.

He said the measures would motivate workers to redouble efforts, appealing to the state government to ensure a motivated and well-compensated health workforce.

He urged the government to consider training and retraining for better service delivery.

Dr. Ali assured NMA members would support state government policies promoting healthcare development.

This year’s Physicians Week theme is “Healthcare as a Value Chain: Building efficiency from policy to patient,” highlighting need for a coordinated health system.

He appealed to governments and private health partners to work together towards achieving healthcare objectives.

Activities lined up for the week include lectures, hospital visits, and free medical outreach, he said.
