APC Considers Al-Makura or Sani Musa for National Chairman Role

By Aminu Garko Abuja
The All Progressives Congress (APC) is weighing its options for a new National Chairman, with Al-Makura and Sani Musa emerging as potential candidates.
The position is reportedly zoned to the North-Central, and the party is intensifying consultations to determine the best candidate.
Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje has resigned as the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), citing health concerns that require him to focus on his well-being.
His resignation comes amid allegations and controversies surrounding his tenure, including a Kano State High Court order restraining him from parading himself as a party member and suits seeking his removal as chairman.
Ganduje’s exit has sparked speculation about potential successors, with Senator Umaru Tanko Al-Makura and Senator Mohammed Sani Musa from the North-Central zone being considered for the role.
The party is reportedly undergoing internal realignment and preparing for the 2027 general elections.
APC’s Zoning Consensus Points to North-Central
The APC is leaning towards maintaining internal balance through zoning, with the national chairmanship likely going to the North-Central zone.
This development puts Senator Al-Makura from Nasarawa State and Senator Sani Musa from Niger State in strong contention for the role, given their influence and capacity to stabilize the party.
Sani Musa: A Reluctant yet Strong Contender for APC Chairmanship
Senator Mohammed Sani Musa, representing Niger East, is a potential candidate for the APC National Chairman role.
As the chairman of the Senate Committee on Finance, he is recognized for his reformist approach and technocratic expertise.

Reluctance and Pressure
Despite his strengths, Sani Musa is reportedly hesitant to take on the role, preferring to focus on his Senate work.
However, influential party figures are increasingly urging him to consider the position, believing his leadership could revitalize the APC.
APC’s NEC Meeting to Determine Interim Leadership
The APC’s National Executive Committee (NEC) is set to hold an emergency meeting to discuss the party’s leadership transition.
An interim arrangement may be announced pending the election or ratification of a substantive chairman at a national convention.
Ongoing Consultations
Party insiders indicate that consultations are underway to identify a consensus candidate, aiming to avoid contentious contests.
The North-Central zone remains a focal point, with both leading candidates hailing from the region.
