Kano State leaders have issued a passionate plea for peace and unity among citizens, amid rising tensions sparked by the Emirate issue.
The call for unity was made during a press conference held at the NUJ Secretariat in Kano on April 12, 2025.
Amb. Abbas Abdullahi, Director General of One Kano Agenda (OKA), emphasized the need to prioritize Kano’s interests over personal ambitions and divisive agendas.
The group warned against attempts to politicize the Emirate issue, stressing the importance of respecting the state’s traditional institution.
OKA called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Governor of Kano State to facilitate peaceful dialogue among stakeholders to resolve the crisis.
The leaders emphasized that national peace begins with local harmony and that restoring calm in Kano is a matter of national interest.
They urged for prompt, non-partisan mediation to maintain mutual respect between state and federal institutions and protect traditional values.
The ongoing dispute has led to complex legal battles, with the Court of Appeal granting a stay of execution on Sanusi’s reinstatement, pending the determination of an appeal at the Supreme Court.
The situation remains fluid, with stakeholders working towards a peaceful resolution ¹.
