The Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Kano State has reaffirmed its strength and unity, despite the recent defection of its governorship candidate.
Kano SDP Chairman, Ali Shettima, emphasized that the party’s structure remains intact, with only the governorship candidate leaving, accompanied by the Vice Presidential candidate.
Shettima dismissed claims that local government and ward chairmen had defected, stating that party officials across all levels remain loyal.
He highlighted that the party executives, including the Director-General of the campaign, are still with the SDP.
The Kano SDP leadership has officially welcomed new members, including former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, and Major Hamza Al-Mustapha.
The party views their entry as a significant boost, reaffirming its commitment to strengthening its structure and preparing for future political engagements.
Notably, the defection of the party’s Vice Presidential candidate and the Kano governorship candidate, Bala Gwagwarwa, to the APC occurred barely a week after El-Rufai and Al-Mustapha joined the SDP.
