Kano, Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano Stste has appealed to the Federal Government to reduce the 2025 Hajj fare, citing the economic challenges faced by citizens.
This appeal was made during an event where 2023 Kano pilgrims received a N375 million refund from the Saudi Arabian Government due to power outages during the 2023 Hajj operations.
This is contained in a statement issued by his spokesperson Sunusi Dawakin Tofa in Kano on Tuesday.
Governor Yusuf commended the Saudi Arabian government for their gesture and concern for humanity, promising to send an appreciation letter through their consulate in Kano.
He also expressed gratitude to the National Hajj Commission for their prudence and timely payment.
The governor praised the Kano State Pilgrims Welfare Board for conducting successful Hajj operations, recognized as the best in the country.
He urged them to maintain their good work in future operations.
Notably, the cost of Hajj for 2025 is expected to exceed N10 million, making it difficult for intending pilgrims to afford.
The Kano State Government had previously approved a N1.4 billion subsidy for intending pilgrims from the state to mitigate the sudden increase in the 2024 Hajj fare.
