SAPZ engages farmers  to boost agricultural productivity in kano

Kano, The Special Agro-Industrial Processing Zones Program (SAPZ) in Kano State has launched a community engagement and awareness campaign to improve knowledge on agricultural productivity. 

The programme, implemented in six local government areas, including Bichi, Dawakin Tofa, Danbatta, Gezawa, Garun Mallam, and Bebeji, aims to raise awareness among the public, particularly targeted beneficiaries.

According to SAPZ Coordinator Kano Muktar El-kasim, the objective is to enhance agricultural productivity and enterprise development, promoting agricultural value chains and job creation in the SAPZ catchment areas. The program also supports agro-industrial zone policy and institutional development.

The SAPZ programme has four key components:

Supporting Climate-Adapted Infrastructure, Developing infrastructure for agro-industrial hubs to support climate-resilient agriculture.

” Improving Agricultural Productivity,  Enhancing agricultural productivity and enterprise development to boost agricultural value chains and job creation.

” Supporting Agro-Industrial Zone Policy, Promoting policy and institutional development to support agro-industrial zones.

” Managing program coordination and addressing issues related to farmer registration, validation, and grievance redress.

The SAPZ programme is funded by the Federal Government, with support from the African Development Bank, International Fund for Agricultural Development, and Islamic Development Bank. 

It is being implemented in seven states, including Kano, and the Federal Capital Territory.
