Inspector General of Police Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun stressed the importance of fostering improved relations between the judiciary and security agencies in Nigeria.

Speaking at a national conference in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, Egbetokun noted that collaboration between the two entities is crucial for maintaining security and upholding justice.

The IGP identified several challenges hindering effective collaboration, including lack of trust, poor communication, and differing mandates. To address these challenges, Egbetokun recommended:

“Establishing Clear Communication Channels*: Creating open and transparent lines of communication to facilitate collaboration and coordination.

“Building Capacity and Training*: Providing training and capacity-building programs to enhance the skills and knowledge of judicial officers and security personnel.

“Promoting Transparency and Accountability*: Ensuring that both the judiciary and security agencies operate with transparency and accountability to build trust and confidence.

“Fostering Collaboration and Coordination*: Encouraging collaboration and coordination between the judiciary and security agencies to achieve common goals.

“Encouraging Community Engagement*: Engaging with local communities to build trust and promote cooperation between the judiciary, security agencies, and the public.

Assistant Inspector General Mohammed Usaini Gumel emphasized the importance of a multi-faceted approach to security, including physical, personnel, cybersecurity, and intelligence gathering measures.

The conference, organized by Justice Mission International, brought together stakeholders from the judiciary, security agencies, and civil society organizations to promote improved relations and enhanced security for judicial officers and court premises.
