NILDS coaches students on legislation and Democracy

Kano, The National Institute of Legislative and Democratic Studies has vowed to inculcate legislative and democracy education among secondary school students with aim of making them abreast right from early stage.

The Director General of the Institute Prof. Abubakar Suleiman, disclosed this during the opening ceremony of the National Quiz Competition on Legislature and Democracy organized by the Institute for secondary school students selected from the North West Geo-Political zone, held at Government Girls Secondly School Dala Kano.

Represented by the Director, Department of Economic in the institute prof. Peter Shiya, said the objective of the organizing the Quiz Competition was to provide continued education on the legislature and to broaden knowledge of the students and youths on the history, practice and procedures of the legislature.

He explained that the competition was to educate students on the process of legislation in the country and advised teachers to avoid interference so as to achieve the desired result.

“This 8th edition of the competition is
therefore the second time the
competition is holding at the
national level .

The competition will also stimulate the interest of the youngsters in
politics and make them more
proactive in matters relating
to the legislature and
democracy.”he said.

He maintained that The quiz competition is an
initiative of the National
Institute for Legislative and
Democratic Studies.

” The idea was to catch them young, so that they will have a clear understanding of how the legislature functions and the Democracy”

The participants of the quiz competition were selected from the seven states of the North west Geo-Political Zone
