Kano, The Kano State Government has embarked on a bold initiative to revamp its education sector, declaring a state of emergency in June this year.

As part of this effort, members of the Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Kano chapter, began a week-long tour of projects executed by the state Ministry of Education.

The tour, organized by the education ministry, aims to showcase the successes and challenges of the state of emergency initiative.

Led by a 13-member supervision team headed by State Commissioner of Education Alhaji Umar Haruna Doguwa, the journalists will assess various projects, including:

Classroom Construction*: One-storey blocks of four classrooms with offices for primary and junior secondary schools across three senatorial districts.

Infrastructure Development: Upgrades at Abubakar Yusuf Government Junior Secondary School Hotoron Kudu, Darmanawa Gadar Karfe School, and Namadi Primary School.

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf emphasized the importance of education, stating, “Education is our number one priority.

“We must take radical but practical measures to reposition education provisioning in our state.

With nearly four out of five classrooms in disrepair, the state of emergency declaration enables swift and effective action to address these challenges.

The tour’s first leg revealed significant progress, with engineers and laborers working diligently to complete projects.

As Kano State strives to revamp its education sector, this initiative marks a crucial step towards providing quality education for its citizens.
