Mass Defection Rocks Kano Politics: APC Support Groups Flock to NNPP

By Aminu Garko

Kano, About 11,111 supporters of Kano North Askarawan Gandujiyya from 11 local government areas in Kano State have defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to join the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), led by Senator Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso.

Similarly over 23 support groups from Kano North have abandoned the All Progressives Congress (APC) to join the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), led by Senator Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso.

This move marks a significant blow to the APC in the region, further weakening the party’s influence.

The defection was motivated by feelings of betrayal by Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin and former Kano State Governor Abdullahi Ganduje, who are from the Kano north zone.

The defectors felt let down by the APC leadership, leading them to seek a new political home.

Senator Kwankwaso welcomed the defectors, stating, “I am happy that you have tasted the waters and learned the hard way in the APC.

You have now joined a party that is considered a political paradise for the masses.”

He also reaffirmed NNPP’s commitment to weakening APC’s influence, setting a benchmark of gaining 1,000 APC members for every one NNPP member lost.

This development is the latest in Kano’s evolving political landscape, where factionalism and power struggles have created opportunities for new players to emerge.

As the NNPP continues to gain momentum, the APC faces an uphill battle to regain its footing in the region.
