The Kano State Government  on Thursday initiated a programme to support smallholder farmers in the state by distributing free fertilizers worth over N1 billion.

The programme, which was launched by Governor Abba Yusuf at the Government House, aims to enhance food production and improve the livelihoods of farmers in the state.

Yusuf said that the programme is in fulfillment of his campaign promise to invest in agribusiness and provide quality and affordable agricultural inputs to farmers.

The fertilizers, which were produced by the state-owned Kano Agricultural Supply Company (KASCO), will be distributed to 52,800 smallholder farmers across the 44 local government areas of the state.

The Governor noted that the state executive council has also approved the procurement of additional fertilizers worth N5 billion, which will be made available to farmers at a subsidized rate.

He emphasized the government’s commitment to sustaining food production through regular supply of fertilizers and strengthening state-owned manufacturing centers like KASCO to boost revenue flow and sustain the state’s economy.

The beneficiaries of the program, including women farmers and people living with disabilities, will receive 25kg of NPK fertilizer to support their farming activities and improve their crop yields.
