In a gesture of kindness, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has donated 42,000 metric tons of essential commodities to the Kano state government to support vulnerable individuals.
The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) facilitated the delivery of the goods, which include maize, millet, sorghum, and garri.
During the presentation in Kano, NEMA’s Director General, Zubaida Umar, emphasized that this initiative aligns with President Tinubu’s commitment to alleviating the economic challenges faced by citizens. Kano State received a significant allocation of 969 metric tons of maize, 1,320 metric tons of sorghum, and 417 metric tons of millet, which will be distributed evenly across all local government areas.
Notably, 20% of the food provisions will be allocated to religious institutions, while 3% will go to boarding schools. Umar also warned of an impending flood in 2024, citing the Seasonal Climate Prediction and Annual Flood Outlook.
Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf expressed gratitude for the President’s generosity and pledged to follow the federal government’s directives for distribution. He also warned against any attempts to divert or misuse the items during the distribution process.
The Governor appealed for continued support for the people of Kano State, acknowledging the goodwill gesture as a significant step towards mitigating the economic challenges faced by vulnerable individuals.”
