Food Security: Federal Government to collaborate with Jigawa state to boost irrigation farming

Federal Government will collaborate with Jigawa state government to improve irrigation infrastructure for large scale farming.
The Minister of Information and National Orientation Alhaji Mohammed Idris made this known at a meeting with farmers of Hadeja-Jama’re Irrigation projects in Auyo Local Government of Jigawa state.
He told the farmers that he was in the farming site to interact with them, see how Government intervention were being utilized, their farming activities and discuss issues and proffer solutions to challenges.
He noted that, the aim was to ensure Government funding was well utilized in order to achieve food security in the country.
He said, Government will continue to invest in Agriculture to achieve food sufficiency in Nigeria.
“The President will be with farmers until Nigeria attain food sufficiency.”
He said despite challenges being experienced as a result of removal of fuel subsidy, president Tinubu has mapped out policies to cushion hardship.
Idris commended the efforts of the farming community for their diligence and focus in the cultivation of crops.
Also, the Commissioner of Information Jigawa state Sagir Musa told the Minister that, the irrigation site has the capacity to provide sufficient food for Nigerians.
The Managing Director Hadeja-Jama’re Irrigation projects Ma’amoon Da’u Aliyu commended President Tinubu’s commitment in making Nigeria attain food security.
Chairman Auyo Local Government Haladu Ubale appealed for the construction of tarred roads and earth dams for Herders.
He explained that, Young people use to travels to major cities in search of menial jobs but with the construction of the irrigation infrastructure many youths are now fully engaged and self employed.
Some of the farmers who spoke expressed gratitude with the federal government intervention for the provisions of the irrigation infrastructure as it will help their economic turn around.
They appealed to farmers to maximize the opportunities of the facilities by working hard to provide more for food to Nigerians.
The Minister of information took time to inspect facilities in the irrigation site and a radio station constructed for the farming community.
