Kano, – The police command in Kano State says it is working in synergy with sister security agencies to check criminal activities in the state.
Such crimes, according to the Commissioner of Police, Usaini Gumel, include kidnapping,banditry,drug peddling and armed robbery.
“Generally speaking, community crimes, especially incidences related to banditary, kidnappings and related offences are cases for which solutions cannot be found in isolation.
“In Kano State, the police is always synergizing with sister security agencies including the military.
“First we come to the table, we cross fertilize ideas, we come up with the best of decisions and we move together in implementing those lofty decisions,” he told the News Agency of Nigeria(NAN).
Gumel said the command had also collaborated with the state government and set up a joint task force to deal with certain incidents of kidnapping in parts of the state.
“As you can see, areas like Katsina boundary with Kano State around Rogo, Karaye, Kanyawa, Kunchi,Sanono, Rogo,in those areas we use to have pockets of incidences of Kidnappings where those insurgents from Katsina used to come and pick their soft targets and go back and keep negotiating for Ramson.
“We did not leave it a lone, we came along in collaboration with the state government we set up a joint taskforce to patrol that area and so, you hardly hear of such incidences now,” he said
The commissioner also said that the command had made a lot of rescue missions during which it arrested several kidnappers in their hideouts in Katsina State.
“We have made a lot of rescue missions, we have arrested several kidnappers in their hide outs in Katsina and most of them have been prosecuted.
‘Likewise, in some of our villages bordering Bauchi State such as Sumaila,Takai,and nearby Local Government Areas we have reduced the incidences of kidnapping using our joint task force led by the military.
“I am assuring you that we are handling that situation head on in collaboration with all security agencies in the state and you can attest to this when you interview members of the public, the community leaders and religious leaders.
“People are appreciating the efforts of the police and all other security agencies made in reducing the crimes,”he said.
Gumel said since his assumption of office nine months ago,the command had arrested many criminals and recovered several vehicles and other exhibits including indian hemp and other drugs,” and in most cases we hand them over to the relevant agencies for investigation and prosecution.”
“Just three days ago, we recovered over 20 bags of cannabis and those bags have been handed over to the NDLEA and investigation is going on.
“On incidences of human trafficking in some cases we collaborate with the Immigration Service,all in our efforts towards getting the best of results in line with the constitution.
“Kano is good to go.We have the manpower, we have the skills,we have the equipment and more importantly,the support of the state government in doing what we are doing.
“When you compare all states in the North, there is no state that is as peaceful as Kano,” the commissioner added.
