NNPP tasks Ganduje on peaceful transition

BY AHMED ISA KANO

KanoThe Gubernatorial Transition Committee of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in Kano has called on the outgoing All Progressives Congress (APC) government under Abdullahi Ganduje to stop sabotaging the process.

Dr Bappa Bichi, Chairman of the NNPP transition committee disclose this while addressing news men in Kano on Friday.

We called on the outgoing All Progressives Congress (APC) government under Abdullahi Ganduje to do the needful for peaceful transition.

Bichi explained that the state government is frustrating all efforts to ensure peaceful and smooth transition.

He said that the inability of the outgoing governor ganduje to inauguration a transition committee to ensure proper transition to the next civilian administration.

He explained that governor Ganduje has refused to inaugurate the 17-member Handover Committee it sets up four weeks ago insisting that the NNPP has refused to provide three members to represent it in the committee.

He explained that the committee it set up, should be inaugurated to handover to the transition committee set up by the NNPP and not otherwise.

He lamented that the NNPP would not as an incoming government accept to be part of a handover committee with less than 20 percent representation while the out going government dominates the committee with over 80 percent representation.

“We were made to understand that the thinking of the outgoing
government is that there should be a joint transition committee in which the outgoing government should have 80% of the membership while the incoming
government should have 20%.

“Perhaps that is why they are proposing a committee in which they have 82% of the members (14 members) and asking us to nominate only 18% (three members).

“For us, the composition and membership are not the issues, the main issue of contention is the principle –we do not belong to the same political party, we do
not share the same ideals and values –why should we do a joint transition committee?

He called on Ganduje to remember that God gives power to whom He wishes and is the one that has given power to Abba Kabir Yusuf and should not challenge the will of God.

We in the committee have invited permanent secretaries to come forward and brief us on happening in their respective ministries for the build up of the incoming administration .

Also expected to come to the committee for briefing were director generals of various agencies .

Meanwhile Commissioner of Information and internal Affairs Malam Mohammed Garba said that the state government is fully committed towards peaceful and success transition in the state

He said that so far meaningful progress had been made towards the timely transition .

However we are still waiting the submission of three members from the NNPP to be coopted into the state government transition committee for the success of the transition in the state
