A group known as Global Initiatives for Good Governance (GIGG) has criticized the Kano State government for its handling of demolition exercises, which allegedly resulted in the loss of over 25 lives.
The group’s convener, Abubakar Yahaya Carpenter, expressed concerns over the government’s actions, particularly the recent demolition spree at Rimin Zakara quarters, which led to several deaths.
The group stated that despite the severity of these incidents, Governor Abba Kabir has not publicly expressed regret for his actions, sparking widespread concern among citizens.
Additionally, GIGG condemned the actions of Governor Abba Yusuf and Muhammadu Sanusi II for ignoring the police ban on durbar activities during the eid-el-fitr celebration, which led to an attack on the governor’s entourage and resulted in loss of lives.
GIGG commended the security agencies in Kano State for their prompt response but urged them to take immediate action to apprehend those responsible and hold Emir Sunusi accountable for the lives lost and injuries sustained.
