Call to Action Against Money Politics,

Politics
A chieftain of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Otunba Segun Showunmi, has urged Nigerians to reject money politics and demand better leadership.
Showunmi, National Coordinator of the National Opposition Movement Coalition (NOMC) or “The Alternative,” made this appeal during a town hall meeting in Kano.
The Problem with Money Politics*
Showunmi blames bad governance on politicians who use ill-gotten wealth to manipulate democracy and keep citizens poor.
He warns voters against trading their votes for material goods, saying, “Don’t shortchange yourself by selling your vote. Stop trading your destiny for a plate of corn maze, Indomie, salt, etc.”
The Alternative aims to prevent a one-party state and promote democracy by empowering citizens to choose a consensus candidate.
Showunmi emphasizes the importance of bridging the gap between government and governed, ensuring quality leadership emerges in 2027.
Other speakers, including former governorship aspirant Jafaar Bello and National Coordinator of Atiku Abubakar’s Forum Saidu Bello, echoed similar sentiments, stressing the need for Nigerians to move beyond sentiment and choose leaders who prioritize the people’s interests.
