By Amina Garko
Kano, Heavily armed policemen on Friday sealed the palace of the Emir of Kano, restricting his free movement.
The security personnel took over the palace as early as 6 a.m. thus preventing the Emir, Muhammadu Sunusi II, from coming out of the palace.
According to reports, police and plain cloth security personnel arrived at the palace and took strategic positions around the complex.
Eyewitnesses claim that a district head, who was recently appointed by the Emir, was scheduled to depart for Bichi but was unable to do so due to the heavy security presence.
Sources also suggest that the Emir had planned to host a meeting with clerics and economists to discuss the contentious Tax Reforms Bill.
However, the deployment of security personnel has prevented the meeting from taking place, leaving many to wonder about the motivates behind the seal-off.
As at the time of filing this report, however, the Emir had come out of the main palace and stationed himself and aides in front of the complex where he usually holds Durbar during Sallah festivities.
Sunusi and his aides came out of the palace amid pomp and ceremony, traditional gun salutes and cheers from the mammoth crowd that gathered around.
