Dawanau Market Cracks Down on Substandard Food Items

Kano, The Dawanau International Market in Kano State has launched a crackdown on traders selling harmful or substandard food items.
Following international customers’ rejection of over 50 containers of suspected adulterated products, market officials are taking drastic measures.
President Alhaji Muntaka Isa assured that the association will collaborate with government agencies to identify and prosecute culprits.
A committee has been set up to investigate, and two warehouses containing 2,000 bags of suspected substandard wheat have been sealed.
NAFDAC has taken samples for laboratory testing. The market association has established a Quality Control Committee and plans to educate traders on food adulteration’s dangers.
Alhaji Abdullahi Maidoya, Chairman of the Board of Trustees, emphasized the importance of protecting the market’s reputation.
“We shall not fold our arms and watch a few selfish and unpatriotic individuals tarnish the good image and reputation of our market built over the years.”
Maidoya urged traders to report anyone involved in selling substandard food items, harming consumers.
The association plans to launch an intensive enlightenment and mobilization campaign to educate traders on the dangers of food adulteration.
