SPIN TEAM PAYS COURTESY VISIT TO KANO GOVERNMENT

Kano – August 20, 2026 – The Sustainable Power and Irrigation for Nigeria, SPIN, Project Executive Team has paid a courtesy visit to the Kano State Government.

The delegation was received by the Secretary to the State Government, SSG, Umar Farouk Ibrahim, on behalf of the state government at the Cabinet Office, Kano.

A statement by the Press Secretary, Office of the SSG, Musa Tanko Muhammad, said the visit was aimed at strengthening institutional collaboration on sustainable management of water, irrigation and related infrastructure in the state.

Welcoming the team, the SSG acknowledged the importance of initiatives targeted at improving water resources, irrigation and agricultural productivity.

The statement said SPIN is a Federal Government project supported by the World Bank. It is designed to strengthen dam safety, improve water-resource management, modernise irrigation systems and support sustainable hydropower development in selected states.

It added that the project is expected to contribute to food security, climate resilience and improved livelihoods.

Kano State is among the participating states under the programme. The Jakara-Wasai irrigation scheme in Minjibir Local Government Area has been identified as a major intervention area, with capacity to support irrigation of approximately 3,000 hectares.

According to the statement, the programme is also relevant to Kano’s water and agricultural infrastructure, particularly the management and safety of major water facilities.

It recalled that World Bank project documentation had previously highlighted the importance of Tiga Dam to the Kano River Irrigation Scheme and the need to ensure its safety and effectiveness.

The SSG said the state government remains committed to supporting initiatives that strengthen agricultural productivity, improve water management, enhance food security and create sustainable economic opportunities for the people.
