Tijjaniyya Shura Council backs Gov Yusuf’s re-election bid

Kano – July 3, 2026 – The Shura Council of the Tijjaniyya Sect has declared support for the re-election bid of Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf.

The declaration was made by the Chairman of the council, Sheikh Sani Shehu Maihula, during the annual Zikr and national prayer organised by the sect at the Kano Emir’s Palace. He delivered the welcome address through his brother and spokesman of the council, Sheikh Ibrahim Shehi Maihula.

This was contained in a statement issued by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa.

According to Maihula, members of the Tijjaniyya Shura Council unanimously resolved to support Yusuf’s second-term bid in recognition of his commitment to good governance, promotion of Islamic values, and people-oriented policies.

The Islamic scholar commended the governor for his support to religious activities, education, healthcare, infrastructure development, and social welfare programmes across the state.

Responding, Yusuf expressed appreciation to the leadership and members of the council for their prayers, confidence and endorsement. He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to serving the people of Kano with sincerity, justice and the fear of Allah, and pledged to sustain policies that improve citizens’ lives.

The governor also thanked religious leaders across the state for their prayers and guidance, describing them as critical partners in promoting peace, unity and development in Kano.
