By Aminu Garko

Sokoto – July 10, 2026 – The Kogunan Sokoto, Dr. Nasir Danladi Bako, has commended Sokoto State Governor, Ahmed Aliyu, for the rehabilitation of inner city roads within and outside the state capital.

In a statement issued on Friday, Bako said the resurfacing and rebuilding of many of the roads was commendable, noting that some of them were last constructed during the military regime of General Yakubu Gowon and some dating back to the government of Sir Ahmadu Bello in the 1960s.

He listed some of the rehabilitated roads to include those in Sahara area, J. Allen, Buzayye, Bado quarters and others.

Bako also noted the construction of service lanes around major roundabouts and the remodelling of Mai Ruwa and Sokoto Guest Inn roundabouts, which he said had reduced traffic congestion within the metropolis.

He urged the governor to extend intervention to inner township roads in Mabera Mujaya, Runjin Sambo, Gidan Dare and other high-density areas.

The Kogunan Sokoto also lauded the construction of a new terminal at Sultan Abubakar III Airport, as well as the facelift of the driveway into Sokoto city, Government House and Kofar Taramniyya towards the Sultan’s Palace.

He appealed to the state government to complete inherited projects such as the Teaching Hospital along Airport Road, similar to the flyover at Rijiya Diplomat area completed in 2023.

Bako expressed optimism that the Aliyu administration, under the guidance of APC leader and former Governor, Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, would continue with the rehabilitation and construction of new mosques, primary and secondary schools across the state.
