Birnin Kebbi – July 7, 2026 – Fifteen first-term governors have declared total support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the continuation of the Renewed Hope Agenda beyond 2027.
This was contained in a communiqué issued after their meeting in Birnin Kebbi and read by the host governor, Nasir Idris of Kebbi State.
The governors included those of Kano, Jigawa, Sokoto, Zamfara, Kebbi, Ondo, Taraba, Delta, Ekiti, Kogi, Benue, Ebonyi, Edo and Plateau States. Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, was among the signatories.

The governors acknowledged the sacrifices Nigerians have made due to ongoing economic reforms, saying the country is undergoing a necessary period of correction after years of fiscal and development challenges.
They said the reforms are necessary to stabilise the economy, restore public finances, attract investment, strengthen productivity and improve security.
According to the communiqué, their support for President Tinubu is based on the need for courageous leadership, policy continuity and stronger collaboration between the Federal and State Governments.
The governors urged Nigerians to look beyond the temporary discomfort and remain committed to the reforms, expressing confidence that they would deliver lasting recovery, shared prosperity and democratic stability.
On security, they expressed concern over terrorism, banditry, kidnapping and attacks on schools, and pledged closer collaboration with security agencies, traditional institutions and local communities to protect lives and property.
They also condemned the abduction of children, attacks on schools and all forms of criminality threatening peace, education and economic activities.
The meeting further condemned reported attacks and hostility against Nigerians and other African nationals in South Africa, and called on the authorities to protect law-abiding residents and ensure justice for victims.
