Kano – June 29, 2026 – Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has joined the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, and other security agencies in the destruction of 12.2 tonnes of seized illicit narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances, and dangerous chemicals, while urging citizens to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities.

This was contained in a statement issued by his spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa.

The governor said the destruction was a practical demonstration of government’s policy to deny criminal networks access to communities. He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening inter-agency intelligence sharing, cross-border collaboration, and expanding the Safe Corridor Project.

He added that through the Committee for Peace Restoration and Youth Rehabilitation, the state had arrested over 400 youths suspected of involvement in drug-related offences and thuggery. He also commended the judiciary for ensuring speedy prosecution of offenders.

Earlier, NDLEA Strategic Commander in Kano, CN Dahiru Lawal Yahaya, said the Federal High Court in Kano had on January 16, April 28, and May 15, 2026, authorised the destruction by burning of 11,990.427 kilograms of seized narcotics recovered from convicted persons.

The Chairman of the NDLEA, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa, Rtd, represented by DCGN Ningi, commended the Kano State Government for donating three Hilux vehicles and other financial support to strengthen the agency’s operations.
