The Kano State Government, led by Governor Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, organised a special prayer session on Saturday at Government House, Kano, in which 4,444 Qur’anic reciters spent the day supplicating for lasting peace and security across the state.

The event, announced in a statement signed by the governor’s spokesperson Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, brought together Qur’anic reciters, Islamic scholars, traditional rulers and government officials to pray against the recent wave of banditry that has left 15 people abducted and one woman killed in the northern senatorial district.

Governor Yusuf thanked Almighty Allah for the successful gathering and urged all stakeholders to support the government’s efforts to address insecurity, stressing that banditry does not discriminate. He said the administration will continue to combine prayers with lawful measures to sustain peace.

He also appealed to residents to offer personal prayers, especially during the late hours of the night, for lasting peace in Kano and the country.

The governor commended security agencies for their cooperation and sacrifices, noting that the relationship between the agencies and his administration remains cordial and effective.

Emir of Kano, Khalifa Muhammad Sanusi II, thanked Allah for the successful prayer gathering, praised Governor Yusuf’s recent visit to affected communities with security chiefs, and called for unity in supporting government actions to restore peace.

Leaders of various Islamic sects, including Sheikh Tijjani Bala Kalarawi, Sheikh Dr Muhammad Sani Ashir, Sheikh Adam Abba Koki, Sheikh Bazallah Shiek Nasir Kabara, Sheikh Abdullahi Uwaisu Madabo, Sheikh Dr Mujitaba Abdulkadir Bauchi and Gwani Lawi Gwani Dankillori, urged continued prayers to overcome the security challenges and commended the governor’s holistic approach.
