Kano — Kano State Governor, Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf, reiterated his administration’s dedication to justice, infrastructural development and good governance at the annual CREED Dinner and Awards Night held at Tropical Galeria, Kano.
A statement signed by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, said the governor was represented by the Commissioner for Justice and Attorney‑General, Barr. Abdulkarim Kabiru Maude, SAN, who commended the organisers for promoting meaningful engagement on the relationship between law, leadership and societal development.
In his remarks, Governor Yusuf highlighted ongoing justice reforms, particularly the review of prolonged detentions in custodial centres that uncovered troubling cases of inmates held for years without trial, case files or legal representation. He said swift action was taken to trace missing files, issue legal advice and release individuals where justice so required.
The governor also outlined progress in infrastructural development across the state, including road rehabilitation, improvement of water‑supply systems, upgrades to schools and health facilities, and ongoing urban‑renewal projects aimed at creating a safer, cleaner and better‑organized Kano.
The event was attended by senior officials: Hon. Umar Haruna Doguwa, Commissioner for Water Resources; Arc. Ibrahim Yakubu Adamu, Commissioner for Housing Development; Engr. Marwan Ahmad, Commissioner for Works; Dr. Kabiru Sani Yakubu, Managing Director of KASCO; Arc. Hauwa Tudunwada, Managing Director of KNUPDA; and Engr. Abba Kankarofi, Deputy Managing Director of KARMA. His Highness the Emir of Gaya, Dr. Aliyu Ibrahim Abdulkadir, was also present.
Governor Yusuf commended members of the legal profession for their continuous efforts in defending justice and upholding the rule of law, and congratulated the award recipients for their remarkable contributions to society. He received the CREED Magazine Governor of the Year 2025 award for Infrastructure and Good Governance, presented by the event chairman, Mr. S.T. Hons, SAN.
