Ganduje Describes Call for His Arrest as Baseless, Reckless

The former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and immediate past Governor of Kano State, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has dismissed the call for his arrest by the Kano State Government as reckless, baseless, and a clear display of incompetence.
In a statement issued on Friday and signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Edwin Olofu, the former governor faulted the claim that he made comments relating to the establishment of a militia group, describing the allegation as unfounded and politically motivated.
Ganduje accused Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s administration of abandoning its core responsibility of securing the lives and property of Kano residents, insisting that the arrest call reflects desperation rather than governance. He said the government should focus on addressing the rising insecurity affecting communities such as Bagwai, Shanono, and Tsanyawa, where residents now live in fear.
“It is deeply unfortunate that rather than addressing the escalating insecurity ravaging the state, Governor Yusuf has chosen to chase shadows while searching for scapegoats to conceal his glaring failures,” the statement read. “At a time when communities are under threat, the governor has neither visited nor shown empathy toward the victims. His continued absence in moments that require leadership speaks volumes of his disconnect from the people he claims to serve.”
The former governor maintained that he has never been linked to acts of violence nor associated with actions capable of breaching the peace of Kano State. He added that his eight-year administration ensured a stable security atmosphere, which, according to him, earned national recognition.
Ganduje said the current administration’s alleged ineptitude stands in contrast to the record of his tenure, urging Governor Yusuf to focus on his constitutional mandate instead of engaging in what he termed “political theatrics and unfounded allegations.”
“Leadership is demonstrated through purposeful action, responsibility, and compassion — not through press conferences and issuing frivolous statements aimed at diverting public attention from one’s failures,” the statement added.
The statement was signed by Edwin Olofu, Chief Press Secretary to Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.
