BARAU TO GOV. ABBA: FOCUS ON SOLVING KANO’S PROBLEMS, NOT POLITICS — DEPUTY SENATE PRESIDENT WARNS

By Ahmed Mohammad Kano

The Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau I. Jibrin, has cautioned Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, against politicising insecurity in the state, urging him instead to concentrate on addressing worsening challenges affecting residents.

Barau issued the warning in response to allegations by the Kano State Government that his recent comments undermined ongoing security efforts. He insisted that insecurity in Kano and other parts of the country required the cooperation of all stakeholders, not political blame games.

In a statement signed by his media aide, Ismail Mudashir, the Deputy Senate President dismissed the government’s claim as “false, reckless and malicious,” challenging officials to produce any evidence showing he made statements capable of fuelling insecurity.

He said Governor Yusuf should “wake up from slumber” and take charge of governance to restore Kano’s past glory, noting that misgovernance had dragged the state backwards. Barau highlighted various security interventions he has facilitated, including providing vehicles and motorcycles for security agencies, renovating police facilities, and attracting federal training institutions to the state.
