Kano, The NNPC Foundation on Tuesday in Kano flagged off the Vulnerable Farmers Training Programme for the North-West Zone, aimed at equipping farmers with practical skills to boost productivity and food security.

The programme, which has engaged over 7,000 registered farmers across four geopolitical zones, focuses on vulnerable farmers, women, and youth.

Speaking at the programme, Mrs Emmanuella Arukwe, Managing Director, NNPC Foundation, said the programme aimed to equip households with practical skills, proven techniques, as well as market knowledge to transition from subsistence farming to sustainable income and greater resilience.

Arukwe was represented by Mrs Eugenia Dominion, Executive Director of Finance at NNPC Foundation.

The training modules include climate-smart agriculture, post-harvest handling, financial literacy, cooperative formation, and digital tools for market access.

Arukwe urged the farmers from Kano and Jigawa states to fully participate in the programme, stressing that its success will be measured by improved yields, reduced losses, and stronger cooperatives.

Dr Danjuma Mamood, Kano State Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources, Represented by Dr Bashir Sunusi pledged the state government’s support for the programme.

According to him, the government prioritises agricultural transformation, employing 1,038 extension officers and investing in mechanised farming.

A beneficiary, Alhaji Ado Japanese, from Gwale Local Government Area, commended the NNPC Foundation for organising the training, saying it will mobilise farmers toward increased food production.
