Kano bye-election: Police ready to provide security

Kano,  The Police Command in Kano  says it is ready to provide adequate security for the conduct of the Bagwai/Shanono by-election and Ghari/Tsanyawa re-run  elections schedule to hold on August 16.

Commissioner of Police Alhaji Ibrahim Bakori, stated this in a telephone interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday in Kano.

Bakori said security agencies in the state are working together to ensure a crisis-free by-election.

He explained that already  effective operational order has been issued to officers deployed to provide security at each polling unit across the affected local government areas.

“We have mobilized sufficient armed personnel to provide security before, during, and after the by-election,” he said. 

The command have put in place various measures to guarantee a peaceful political atmosphere in the state.

The commissioner assured law-abiding residents that they can freely exercise their franchise on August 16 without fear for their lives and property. 

He urged political parties and candidates to conduct themselves in a manner that promotes peace and facilitates peaceful conduct of the elections.

“We’ll maintain a visible presence at polling units to safeguard voters’ rights and prevent intimidation.”

“We will not tolerate thuggery, intimidation, and violent conduct before, during, and after the election,” he warned. 

“We will provide a level playing ground for all participating political parties, and any act capable of bringing confusion to the state will not be tolerated.”

The commissioner warned that anyone found violating the law would be arrested and prosecuted.
