Inquiry:Kano govt constitutes white paper drafting committee

Kano,The Kano State Government has constituted a White Paper Drafting Committee to review and provide the government’s position on the recommendations made by the Commission of Inquiry on the August 2024 riots.

The incidents breached the peace and witnessed destruction of public and private properties, looting, arson and killings.

This is contained in a statement issued by the Information Officer in the office of the Secretary to State Government,Musa Tanko Muhammad.

Muhammad said the Secretary to the State Government,Alhaji Umar Farouq Ibrahim who chaired the inaugural session of committee on behalf of Abba Yusuf, said the body was tasked with thoroughly examining the report of the commission and making further recommendations to prevent future occurrences.

Ibrahim described the August 2024 events as bitter experience, stating that the loss of lives and destruction of properties worth billions of naira had set the state back significantly. 

He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to taking all necessary measures to prevent a recurrence, rebuild the economy, and ease the suffering caused by the crisis. 

He further highlighted the importance of the committee’s work, expressing confidence in its members’ expertise to ensure a prompt and appropriate response.

The six-member committee is chaired by

Alhaji Dan Asabe Yahaya – Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Internal Security and Special Services, Kano.

Other members are:Alhaji Aliyu Yakubu Garo,Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Youth and Sports, Kano,Dr. Hadi Bala, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Higher Education, Kano.

The rest are:Barrister Salisu Marmara, Ministry of Justice, Kano,Mallam Yahaya Umar – Director, Planning, Research, and Statistics, Kano State Pension Fund Trustee who will serve as Secretary and Jamilu Usman – Assistant Secretary II, REPA Directorate, SSG’s Office to serve as Assistant Secretary.

Speaking on behalf of the committee members, Alhaji Dan Asabe Yahaya expressed gratitude to Gov. Yusuf for entrusting them with such an important assignment. 

He assured that the committee would work diligently to justify the confidence reposed in them
