Gov.Yusuf Repositioning Kwankwasiyya City housing For Optimal Growth

By Ahmed Mohammad Kano

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf is spearheading efforts to revitalize Kwankwasiyya City’s housing sector, aiming to unlock its full potential for growth and development.

This initiative is part of his broader vision to reposition and renew Kano State, which he emphasized during his inauguration address ¹.

The Kwankwasiyya City housing project, initially conceived during the administration of former Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso, has faced various challenges, including land disputes and uncompleted projects.

However, Governor Yusuf is committed to addressing these issues and ensuring the city’s master plan is enforced.

By repositioning Kwankwasiyya City’s housing sector, Governor Yusuf aims to create a thriving and sustainable community that benefits residents and supports the state’s economic growth.

Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf is taking bold steps to revive the Kwankwasiyya City housing estate, which has been in a state of disrepair for over a decade.

The city, launched over 10 years ago, was envisioned as a hub for economic growth, social development, and environmental sustainability, but it has faced numerous challenges, including controversy over pensioners’ funds, incomplete payments, and illegal structures ¹.

To address these issues, Governor Yusuf has formed a high-powered committee, led by Commissioner Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, to develop a comprehensive plan for the city’s revival.

The committee’s mandate includes public sensitization, verifying ownership and occupancy, and ensuring the city’s master plan is enforced ¹.

In a show of commitment, Governor Yusuf has reclaimed the Governor’s Lodge, which was previously diverted to a federal government agency, and renovated it to its original state.

He has also demolished illegal structures in the city to restore order and ensure the city’s original layout is maintained ¹ ².

The Kwankwasiyya City project is part of the state’s development plan, which includes three planned cities: Kwankwasiyya, Amana, and Bandirawo.

While similar projects in other states, like Gombe and Yobe, have become fully functional, Kwankwasiyya City remains abandoned and poses a security threat to residents and neighboring communities ¹.

Governor Yusuf’s efforts to revive the city are a step in the right direction, and it’s now up to the owners, residents, and stakeholders to support his vision and make the city habitable once again.
