FG, Gates, Dangote Commit to Eradicating Polio, Enhancing Healthcare in Kano

The Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Development, Prof. Muhammad Ali Pate, has commended Kano State’s efforts in combating infectious diseases and eliminating polio. 

During his visit to the state, Prof. Pate emphasized the need for aggressive action against polio, citing concerns from development partners.

He praised Kano State for passing the Kano Control Disease Control Center Bill into law, highlighting the importance of federal and state government collaboration in addressing health issues. 

Prof. Pate also acknowledged the state’s lead role in controlling the diphtheria dHe also tasked the media with effective and proper sensitization of parents on the importance of immunizing their children.

He stated that educating parents on the benefits of immunization will pave the way for the total eradication of the epidemic.

“We want the media to educate parents on the positive effects of immunization in building a healthy foundation for their children.

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, represented by Secretary to the State Government Alhaji Umar Faruk Ibrahim, expressed appreciation for the visit by the Minister and donor partners. 

He noted that the decade-long partnership between the Gates and Dangote foundations has significantly enhanced the health sector.

Despite successes, the governor emphasized that more work is needed to achieve total polio eradication. 

He expressed confidence that with continued support from the federal government and donor agencies, challenges will be overcome.

The commitment to eradicating polio is shared by Bill Gates and Aliko Dangote, who have previously collaborated to remove Nigeria from the polio-endemic list in 2015.
