Doguwa ( Kano State) Fulani herdsmen in Doguwa Local Government Area of Kano State have appealed to the state government to provide them with improved animal feeds to enhance milk production.
Alhaji Ahmadu Sulaiman, the head of the herdsmen in the area, made the plea while speaking with journalists at the Falgore Cattle Market on Friday.
Sulaiman explained that over 5,000 cattle in the area are struggling to find adequate food, particularly with the end of the rainy season.
He emphasized the need for nutritious feeds, including offals, to fatten the cattle and increase milk production.
The herdsmen leader commended the state government for establishing a veterinary clinic at the Falgore Cattle Market through the Kano State Agro-Pastoral Development Project (KSADP).
This initiative has improved the health of their animals, and regular vaccinations have also helped prevent diseases.
Sulaiman urged KSADP to involve local herdsmen in their enlightenment campaigns to promote the importance of their activities in livestock development.
He noted that people prefer to receive messages from their tribesmen, who communicate in a familiar language and manner.
Notably, KSADP is currently constructing and equipping 100 Milk Collection Centres across milk-producing communities in Kano State, including one at the Falgore Cattle Market.
“Each centre will feature a 550-litre milk storage tank, solar-powered borehole, toilet facilities, solar lighting, and an office. Once completed, these centres will be managed independently by local committees.(
