Lack of Basic Amenities: The Unseen Struggle of Kano South Primary Schools

Lack of School Fence, Toilets, Security Guards and Additional furniture has been identified as the major Challenges of Primary Schools in Kano South Senatorial District.

The information was gathered by group of journalist who went on an inspection tour in some local government areas of Kano South Senatorial District recently.

At Garin Dau Central Primary School ,Warawa LGA the Headmaster of the School Malam
Murtala Aliyu Garin Dau said the school has a total enrollment of
2071 pupils ,he said the school have 18 teachers who cater for the 2071 pupils .

” We need more teaching staff , because 18 teachers can not adequately cater for these pupils,so we are appealing to the Authorities concerned to deploy more teachers to this school, “

” Another Challenge is the issue of flood during rainy season, premises of this prestigious school use to be filled up with flooding ,in some instances we have to close down the school for a while for the water to drawn”

Malam Murtala Aliyu commended the foresight and commitment of Kano State Government for declaring state of emergency on education,saying the gesture will go along way in addressing the challenges the sector is facing.

“Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has brought succor to our schools ,80 set of three seaters were brought to this school,the morale of our personnel has been boosted , instructional materials were supplied , but we need additional toilets,because only two toilets are functional in this school,one for teachers and the other for the pupils”

” We have only one security guard,just last week vandals stole zinc ,it is very unfortunate,we need atleast four guards ,and possible we need a solar borehole”

While at Chula special primary school Ajingi Local Government Area a block of four class rooms and office in ongoing which has reached about 40% completion .

According the Head Teacher ,the school has 1270 with only 12 teachers to cater for these students , but with the new recruitment of teachers some new teachers were posted to this school,so we must commend government for this step forward.

“This school serves almost all the nearby villages ,all their children attends this school.but we have shortage of chairs and tables ,the school has no fence,at any time people trespass which is not conducive for tracing and learning .

The Head Teacher maintained that for effective teaching and learning to take place their is the need for additional guards and staff room

At Gyanawa Primary School Gaya ,a block of four class rooms and office is ongoing which has reached about 25% completion .

Indeed Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has demonstrated commitment and dedication towards uplifting the quality and standard of education in the state ,but certain challenges needed to be looked upon for effective service delivery to be Achieved
