Better Life for Women In Kano:

By Mahmud Shauibu Rimgim
Women empowerment has been a central focus of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s administration since its inception. The governor’s strategy aims to encourage and support women in creating business opportunities at the grassroots level, thereby adding value to their lives and rekindling their entrepreneurial skills to boost household economies.
Providing women with opportunities that engage their lives productively is commendable. By promoting small-scale entrepreneurial activities, women can significantly contribute to their households and support their families financially. This initiative integrates them into the league of productive members of their respective communities.
Governor Yusuf’s administration promotes various ventures, including poultry farming, animal husbandry, and groundnut oil processing. These activities not only contribute to household sustenance but also position women as active contributors to the economy. Additionally, women are encouraged to engage in weaving, producing materials for skin beautification during weddings and other ceremonies, and preparing breakfast and evening snacks, such as roasted maize, fried groundnut, and soya bean cakes.
In a significant move to support women economically, Governor Yusuf has earmarked a total sum of N260 million for this purpose. Under this initiative, 200 women in each of the 36 local governments will receive N50,000 as seed capital, while 100 women in eight local governments with a higher cost of living, such as the municipality and its neighboring areas, will receive N100,000 each. In his address at the program’s launch, Governor Yusuf stated that this initiative aims to integrate women into economic activities and mitigate the effects of the economic downturn experienced in the country.
To ensure prudent management and prevent fund misuse, the government utilizes the CRC in each local government to administer, supervise, and disburse the funds.
This policy is a continuation of efforts made during the tenure of Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso and fulfills a promise made by Governor Yusuf during his election campaign.
Women’s empowerment is at the heart of Governor Yusuf’s administration, ranging from promoting girl child education to uplifting the economic status of rural women and the less advantaged in society.
A better life for all women is a legacy to be cherished, supported, and encouraged by everyone, regardless of political differences. Women are golden treasures and precious assets of unquantifiable value.
