Kano, The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano state has called for an investigation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) into a scandal involving a medical supply contract for 44 local governments in the state.
The APC chairman, Alhaji Abdullahi Abbas, also requested that the local government councils’ accounts be frozen to prevent further mismanagement of resources.
Abbas criticized Governor Abba Yusuf’s claim of unawareness about the scandal, suggesting that he is either not in control or lacks the capacity to lead the state.
He also questioned the effectiveness of the state’s Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission in investigating the matter, citing the chairman’s perceived partisanship and lack of power.
The APC chairman highlighted a series of alleged financial recklessness involving officials of the ruling New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) government, including:
Controversial contracts worth N27 billion for interchange bridges and diversion and repackaging of palliatives.
Others are the sale of properties at Radio Kano, missing funds at Abubakar Rimi Television, Illegal sale of palliatives at the state Agricultural and Rural Development Authority and diversion of federal government’s palliatives to the Chief of Staff’s private residence
Abbas urged the EFCC to investigate these allegations to ensure accountability and transparency in the state’s governance.
